Letter from the Alumnae Board Chair: I am honored and excited to be serving as chair of the St. Agnes Alumnae Board for this, my third and final year on the board. As a 1987 graduate, it has been exciting to witness the amazing changes that have occurred at the school since my graduation, including the expansion of the Cameron Library, Strake Family Cafeteria, and music department, and the addition of the new Center for the Sciences and Student Services Center. Now, most recently, we are thrilled over the acquisition of the old Gillman Honda dealership for expansion of the Academy's athletic facilities. It's a fun time to get involved as an alumna and contribute ideas and support for the continued improvement and expansion of our campus. I have heard many times from fellow alumnae that they cannot believe the transformation since they graduated and it's always exciting to see their expressions as they tour the new facilities. As part of our ongoing mission, the board is seeking not only to contribute to the development of our beautiful campus, but to elevate the profile of the alumnae association within the St. Agnes community. We are always particularly interested in inviting graduates who have been away for many years to reconnect and in keeping our recent graduates involved even through their college and early-adult years. For example, in the last two years we have developed a young professional association - SAYPO: St. Agnes Young Professionals Organization - for alumnae 35 and under which is already very active. I would have loved to have had them around when I was a "young alumna!" In point of fact, all ages of alumnae are valued at St. Agnes for their contributions, ranging from Career Day (an all-alumnae event held every other year on campus) to Senior Send-off, where we wish our seniors farewell, as well as numerous other events such as the Alumnae Day of Service each year in the spring. There are many opportunities to get involved and we especially strive to connect with the current student body. It is important that our students be aware of the alumnae association and know that, even after graduation, they continue to be a vital part of the St. Agnes community. I had the pleasure this past winter of attending my first Pancake Breakfast held at the school over the Christmas holidays and was delighted at seeing the number of first-year college students returning to campus and reconnecting with their friends. I invite all our wonderful alumnae to remain involved with the association. If you wish to volunteer for any of our committees or events planned throughout the year, please send me an e-mail at dvarner@hwa.com. I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you.
